Initially inspired by the well known penguin scene from the movie Fight Club, we curated our first Power Animal exhibition at Voz Alta. The show has since been hosted at Zepf Alt, The Spot, and TPG2. We now bring you the fifth installment of the series to our home base in La Jolla!

A power animal, is a broadly animistic and shamanic concept that has entered the English language from Anthropology, Ethnography and Sociology. A tutelary spirit guides, helps or protects individuals, lineages and nations. In the shamanic worldview, everything is alive, bearing an inherent virtue, power and wisdom.
